The Montreal Canadiens win their 23rd Stanley Cup as they defeated the Calgary Flames 4 games to 1.   They won game 5 in Calgary 4-3.
Montreal goalie Patrick Roy wins the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP.

Sports Illustrated Hockey Cover of the Week


Buffalo Sabres center Gilbert Perreault appears on the Feb. 26, 1973 cover of Sports Illustrated. The 1st overall pick of the 1970 NHL Draft, Perreault won the Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year) for 1970-71 and played all of his 17 seasons with Buffalo. The six-time All-Star and Hall of Famer turned 65 years old today (Nov. 13). (Tony Triolo for SI)
