Hawks vs Preds

The man I call my brother Doug Schimmel just sent me some great photos from the game in Chicago. He is spending his wedding anniversary in Chicago this weekend and is enjoying the game with his lovely wife Judy.

CHICAGO - Chris Chelios has earned more time with the Chicago Wolves.

The American Hockey League team signed the 47-year-old defenceman to a second professional tryout contract Sunday.

The 25-year NHL veteran has made 22 appearances since signing with the Wolves on Oct. 20, and the top defenceman on the team with 14 points (four goals, 10 assists).

Chelios is second on the Wolves with a plus-nine rating and has posted a plus or even rating in 17 of his 22 outings.

Chelios racked up 185 goals, 763 assists and 2,891 penalty minutes with the Montreal Canadiens (1983-90), Chicago Blackhawks (1990-99) and Detroit Red Wings (1999-2009).

The Chicago native won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenceman three times (1989, 1993, 1996), is an 11-time NHL all-star and has captured three Stanley Cups (Montreal in 1986, Detroit in 2002 and '08).

Rumor

from the Toronto Sun:

When is somebody going to challenge the leadership of Rangers GM Glen Sather? The club hasn't had a great record since he took over and things are going downhill fast this season. Here's a rumor: Sather and coach John Tortorella out. Mark Messier and coach Wayne Gretzky in.

100 Years

Well I swallowed my hatred for the Montreal Canadiens long enough to watch Hockey Night in Canada tonight. They had all the living former Canadiens that were able to travel there and also retired 2 more jerseys, the #3 of Emile Bouchard and #16 of Elmer Lach. It was interesting to see Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe there enjoying the proceedings and then he was shown talking with Elmer Lach and you could tell those 2 had broken their noses a couple of times.
Its rare to see a ceremony honoring a teams 100 hundred years of existence and in one city, so I watched and the one thing that jumped out at me was the return to a Canadiens uniform of Patrick Roy. After the way he parted company in 1995 I wondered if he would attend any of the ceremonies for this seaons. Maybe because there is new ownership of the team or just because he wanted to be part of the celebration it was kind of cool seeing him taking shots in net with fellow Hall of Famer Ken Dryden.
