Today in Hockey History

Today in 1983 the NHL held its 35th annual All Star game at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale New York. This was marked by the first All Star game MVP award for Wayne Gretzky, who scored all 4 of his goals in the 3rd period. The Campbell conference won this game 9-3.
The only scoring for the Wales conference was Michel Goulet, Ray Borque and Don Maloney.
The winning goaltender was John Garrett of the Vancouver Canucks. Originally voted the All Star MVP before the end of the game but they did a revote after the game and Gretzky was then voted the MVP. Pelle Lindbergh took the loss for the Wales conference.
