2012 NHL Playoffs 2nd Round

Yesterday April 28th saw 2 more series in the second round of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs begin

first up was the NY Rangers vs Washington Capitals

 then later in the day the St Louis Blues played host to the LA Kings

New York Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins 5/11/96 - Game 5

Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semi-finals Pittsburgh won series 4 games to 1.

2012 Rocket Richard Trophy

The winner of the 2011-2012 Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy is Steve Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning with 60 goals.
This is his second Richard Trophy, he won his first in 2010.

Bye Bye Bruins!!!!  the defending champs are done and lost a game 7 at home in Boston.  That makes it even sweeter for the Capitals.

April 21st 2012 NHL Playoff Highlights

The St Blues move on the 2nd round of the 2012 playoffs with a 4-1 series victory over the San Jose Sharks.  This is the first playoff series win for the Blues since 2002.


Game 5 was a 3-1 win for the Blues
             




The Phoenix Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks went to overtime in game 5, which is the first time the first 5 games of a series all went to OT since the 1951 Stanley Cup finals between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. The Blackhawks pull out the win to make the series 3-2 Coyotes moving back to chicago for game 6 Monday Night.

Flyers @ Penguins 04/20/12 Game 5 Stanley Cup Playoffs

In a departure from the previous 4 games this was a real defensive battle (so to speak) and again when the Pens give the flyers a PowerPlay they scored...but finally on the 3rd PP chance the stopped them and this seemed to give the Pens a lift. The Flyers didnt make it easy but Fluery flashed some pads in the third and kept the one goal lead.

2012 Art Ross Trophy Winner

The 2011-2012 Art Ross Trophy winner for the NHL leading points scorer goes to the Pittsburgh Penguins' Evgeni Malkin with 109 points (50 G, 59 A)
This is the 2nd Ross Trophy for Malkin who won his first in 2009 with 113 points (35 G, 78 A)

The 2011 winner Daniel Sedin finished 28th in scoring for 2012 with 67 points (30 G, 37 A).

2012 NCAA Frozen Four

Boston College closed out the 2011-12 NCAA hockey season by winning its 5th National championship by defeating Ferris State tonight 4-1 in Tampa.
After knocking off heavy favorite Minnesota Thursday night in the second game of the Frozen Four, the Golden Eagles make quick work of the Ferris State Bulldogs tonight in the championship game.

Stamkos Joins 60 Goal Club (Updated video)

Steven Stamkos of the TB Lightning scored his 60th goal tonight in the final game of the 2011-12 regular season.   He is the first player with 60 goals since Alex Ovechkin scored did in the 2008-2009 season.
