2002 Clarence Campbell Trophy
Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman defies tradition/superstition and lifts the Clarence Campbell Trophy for the 2002 Western Conference Champions. Detroit beat defending Cup champions Colorado Avalanche in the Western conference finals, 4 games to 3.

The Carolina Hurricanes defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs in OT of Game 6 of the Eastern Conference finals.
Martin Gelinas scored at 8:05 of the OT to send the Hurricanes (formerly Hartford Whalers) to their first Stanley Cup Finals.

2002 - Canada defeats the United States 5-2 to win the men's ice hockey Olympic Gold Medal
1960 - US beats Germany in Olympic hockey finals round, 9-1
Team USA would not lose a game in the Gold Medal Round. This was the second win in the final round. Up next would be the heavy favorite Canada.
