 April 16th 1992 - Brett Hull becomes the second player with three straight 70 goal seasons. Hull scores his 70th goal in a 5-3 victory over the Minnesota North Stars, joining Wayne Gretzky, who accomplished the feat twice.

 April 2nd 1967, the Chicago Black Hawks beat the New York Rangers 8-0 as Stan Mikita picked up two assists to give him 97 points tieing Bobby Hull's NHL record for most points in a season set in 1965-66.

December 17th 1991: The Pittsburgh Penguins scored 8 goals in the 2nd period vs. San Jose Sharks including 1-2—3 from Joe Mullen. It was one shy of the NHL record for most goals by one team in a period (BUF: 9 vs. TOR on Mar. 19th 1981).

January 25th 1991
 Brett Hull of the St. Louis Blues became the 5th player in NHL history to score 50 goals in 50 or fewer games. Hull scored his 50th in the Blues 49th game of the year, a nine-four route of the Detroit Red Wings.

Evgeni Malkin scores his 800th and 801st career point in the NHL.  He is 4th on the Penguins all time list of point scorers.  He sits 157th all time in the NHL, 3 points behind Garry Unger for 156th.

Brett Hull became the 24th player in NHL history to score 500 goals, notching a hat trick in a home game against Stephane Fiset and the Los Angeles Kings.  
Brett and his father Bobby became the first father and son to join the 500-goal club.

Today in Hockey History (December 20th)


December 20th 1983
Guy Lafleur and Steve Shutt of the Montreal Canadiens score their 500th and 400th career goal, respectively, in a 6-0 rout of the New Jersey Devils at Byrne Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey.
During the game against the Devils on December 20th,1983, Shutt took a pass from Ryan Walter in the second period and faked Devils’ goalkeeper "Chico" Resch to the right to score his 400th career goal and put Montreal up 3-0. Lafleur scored his own milestone goal at 8:34 into the third period, taking a rising shot from about 30 feet away to beat Resch. With the shot, Lafleur became only the 10th player in the history of the NHL to score 500 goals.

Anaheim Ducks Teemu Selanne joins the 500 goal club with a against the Colorado Avalanche.  
He reached 500 in his 982nd game.  
He would finish his career with 684 goals and 11th on the all time list.

The New York Rangers acquired Mark Messier from the Edmonton Oilers for 3 players including Bernie Nicholls.   Messier showed his value right away, leading the Rangers to the best record in the NHL and winning his 2nd Hart Trophy.

St. Louis fans were elated, as Keenan had just led the New York Rangers to the Stanley Cup. All Keenan did was run the franchise into the ground

Today in Hockey History (1973)


May 6th 1973
The New England Whalers beat the Winnipeg Jets 9-6 in Hartford, Conn. to win the 1st WHA Hockey Championship Avco World Trophy.  
 New England won the Series 4 games to 1.

In the deciding game Larry Pleau scored a hat trick.  After winning the game, the Avco World Trophy had not yet been completed.  As a result of the this the Whalers skated their "victory lap" with their divisional trophy causing an embarrassment for the WHA officials.
