1924 - Frank Nighbor received the first NHL Hart Trophy. The award, that judges the most valuable player to his team, was the first individual award in the NHL. In 1925 he would also be the first player to win the Lady Byng trophy for gentlemanly play. Frank won 4 Stanley cup trophies with the original Ottawa Senators in 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927.

For 14 years he was the face of the Tampa Bay Lightning, helping guide them to a Stanley Cup championship in 2004 and winning the Hart Trophy and Art Ross trophy in the process, Martin St.Louis left his mark and built a legacy of winning in Tampa Bay.
He is a 3 time winner of the Lady Byng trophy as the NHL's most gentlemanly player and a 2 time Art Ross trophy winner as the regular season's league point scorer, but his legend was made in 2004. Leading a little hearlded Lightning team to the Stanley cup final against a Calgary Flames team that was carrying the hopes of a nation, he scored the double OT winner goal in game six to force a game 7 back in Tampa. In that Game 7 the Lightning held on for 2-1 win for their first Stanley Cup championship.
After being traded in 2013-2014 season to the NY Rangers, he picked up where he left off and with some tremendous goal tending, drove the Rangers to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals and again to the Eastern Conference finals. This time he met his former team from Tampa and they battled 7 games before the Lightning closed the door.
Martin also made his world hockey career a success by playing for Team Canada and winning the gold medal at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and the 2014 Olympic gold medal.
In announcing his retirement today, we should only have to wait the minimum 5 years to see the name of Martin St. Louis grace the Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2020.
His regular season totals in the NHL :
